WASHINGTON (WITI) -- The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced Thursday, August 29th that Westlake Foods out of Santa Ana, California is recalling over 69,000 pounds of cured pork products due to incorrect branding and undeclared allergens.
The products contain wheat and soy, known allergens which are not declared on labels.
Liverwurst spread for retail, restaurant and wholesale use nationwide has been recalled in addition to three other pork products that were recalled on August 23rd.
All of the recalled items are labeled EST. 1627A inside the USDA Mark of Inspection. They were distributed between January 1st, 2013 and August 22nd, 2013.
The problem was discovered by an FSIS inspector during a routine label review. It is believed the problem occurred through a change in the company's spice mix, which was not reflected on the products' labels.
So far, no reports of adverse reactions have been reported. Anyone concerned about a reaction is urged to contact a healthcare provider.
