MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Fire officials on Tuesday afternoon, July 1st were on the scene of a fire that broke out at an apartment building in the 3900 block of N. Humboldt Boulevard.
The Milwaukee Fire Department tells FOX6 News the fire started in the living room of one of the units on the first floor of the three-story apartment complex.
No one was inside the apartment unit at the time of the fire.
Fire officials say the first floor suffered significant smoke damage.
Residents living on the first floor of the building have been displaced -- and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
The Milwaukee Fire Department is letting residents on the second and third floors of the complex decide whether they want to stay in the complex or not.
Fire officials tell FOX6 News the fire caused $100,000 worth of damage to the building, and $60,000 worth of damage to the contents of the building.
No one was injured, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Fire officials found working smoke detectors on the second and third floors of the complex.
It is estimated that 17 people live on each floor of the complex.
The American Red Cross said Tuesday it is assisting up to 70 people.
