MARYSVILLE, CALIFORNIA (WITI) -- A 14-month-old baby boy is choking -- and his father dials 911. The dispatcher who answers the call? The child's own mother!
FOX40 in Sacramento, California reports the child's mother is a training dispatcher for the Marysville Police Department in Marysville, California.
In late May, Britney Melchor got a 911 call she'll never forget.
Her baby, Maverick, was choking on a small, metal washer lodged in his throat.
The child's father, Robert Kimball, wasn't able to get the washer to go down.
"Can you respond to my aid? My child is choking. Medical is en route," Britney Melchor, audibly shaken, was heard saying on radio traffic that day.
As the ambulance headed to the child, Kimball was able to dislodge the washer on his own.
Britney Melchor has since been honored with a certificate of appreciation from the Marysville City Council.
