MT. PLEASANT (WITI) -- A 59-year-old man was assaulted in the 4400 block of Taylor Avenue in the Village of Mt. Pleasant Monday night, August 12th. Authorities are not releasing his name at this time.
According to police, a citizen located a man with a dark colored jacket and jeans lying on the shoulder of the road around 9:23 p.m.
When Mt. Pleasant officers arrived on scene they found a man bleeding from his face. He sustained substantial face and head injuries as a result of being attacked. The South Shore Fire Department transported the victim to the hospital for treatment of his injuries where he remains at this time.
According to officials, the victim said he was walking eastbound on Taylor Avenue after leaving McDonald's when he saw three teenagers following him. The suspects then assaulted the man from behind with unknown blunt object(s).
Following the assault, the suspects fled the scene on foot.
One suspect was described as being tall and the other two were medium height. There are no additional suspect descriptions at this time.
At this time it appears this was a random attack. This case remains under investigation by the Mt. Pleasant Police Department.
