Simple explanation about the formation of "ice spikes"

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A FOX6 News viewer sent in a photo of what looked like a hunk of ice protruding from a bird bath -- and she really wanted to know what was going on there.

FOX6 Chief Meteorologist Vince Condella brought up the phenomenon during a visit to Studio A on Tuesday, November 12th. Here's his explanation of how ice spikes form.
