Firefighters called out to house fire near 20th & Meinecke; one displaced

MILWAUKEE -- Firefighters were called to the scene of a house fire on Milwaukee's north side early Wednesday morning, December 2nd.

The fire broke out at a home near 20th and Meinecke around 4:30 a.m.

Fire officials tell FOX6 News that no one was injured -- but one person was displaced.

That person was able to get out of the home on their own.

No one was hurt.

The home sustained $130,000 in damage. The battalion chief said the attic and second floor of the home sustained fire damage and the basement and first floor sustained water damage.

The home is a total loss.

"The guys had a lot of work to do when they first got here -- a lot of heat. Knocked it down from the outside before they could get in. As soon as they got the bulk of it knocked down, they went in and they did their primary searches, found that everybody was out OK. It's what happens when you get a delayed alarm in the middle of the night like that, it gets going pretty good," Michael Blackwood, MFD battalion chief said.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire. A preliminary investigation shows the fire may have started as a result of an electrical problem. At this point, it does not appear to be arson.
