"I get to officially declare the 2016 edition of the Wisconsin State Fair open to the public. Enjoy!" Governor Walker said.
The gates opened at 8:00 a.m. Thursday.
"It's exciting -- whether you want to be on the rides, which is where I'm headed next, or entertaining some of the food," Walker said.

Over the past 165 years, the Wisconsin State Fair has offered something for everyone -- from the animals, to the entertainment, and, of course -- the FOOD!
"The giant slide. The bouncy thing," Emma Schneble said.
"We really anticipate the cheese curds, having the good food, deep fried stuff," Tyson Michaud said.
"Deep fried Oreos. Deep friend Twinkies. All the cool stuff you won't get in the city," Drew Schneble said.

An attendance record was set during the 2015 Wisconsin State Fair -- with more than a million visitors.
Opening Day 2016 brought back plenty of regulars.
"We're from a family of 10 children. We've come every year. I'm going to be 64, and so I've come every year for 63 years. And I haven't missed one the first day," Melody Schneble said.
