MILWAUKEE - For the second time in two days, a Milwaukee freeway was shut down because of gunfire. This time, it was I-94 between Wisconsin State Fair Park and American Family Field Monday, June 14.
Traffic came to a standstill as the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office closed I-94 westbound at 70th Street for more than an hour as deputies investigated shots fired on the freeway. Orange markers peppered the lanes as authorities scoured the area. The gunshots caused some anxious moments for drivers and neighbors.
One woman said she saw a helicopter hovering and assumed it was a shooting. As her instincts were right, she said she's disheartened and feels this is a sign of the times.
Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
