(CNN) -- A cheerful moment has gone viral! A junior college's basketball team tried to celebrate a big win with an age-old sports tradition, but it ended up being a slippery, dangerous mess.

Of course it was all caught on camera and put on YouTube.

"I've seen it in football countless times, but I've never seen it in basketball. But I guess this is why," Abby Thurin said.

17-year-old Thurin's grandfather is the coach for the North Platte Community College women's basketball team. She knew if the girls won to go to the NJCAA Division II's national championship tournament, they were going to douse their coach -- so she was ready with her iPhone.

"We weren't expecting them to take the whole cooler and go for it, and obviously neither was he," Thurin said.

The girls chased Coach Thurin with the cooler and he slipped on the entire bucket of water. Then another person tried to help -- and fell himself.

"He was fine. He was a little sore because he caught himself but he was laughing like crazy. I tweeted ESPN and it just unfolded from there and it's gone crazy," Thurin said.

Thurin's video has since exploded with almost 1.7 million hits in just three days on YouTube. She has been contacted by Yahoo, ESPN, CNN and Good Morning America -- to name a few.

"I'm from a small town. You don't expect things like that to happen," Thurin said.

Thurin has a message for the girls' team for next time they try to celebrate a win.

"Not everything happens as glorious as it might seem," Thurin said.
