WITI-TV, MILWAUKEE -
The Milwaukee Brewers have re-signed right-handed reliever Claudio Vargas to a one-year contract. Terms were not disclosed.
The 31-year-old Vargas went a combined 1-0 with a 1.74 ERA in 36 relief appearances between Los Angeles and Milwaukee last season while holding opponents to a .177 batting average. He did not surrender a run in his final 13 appearances of the season.
Vargas began 2009 on the disabled list with the Dodgers with tendinitis in his right elbow, missing 79 games. He was reinstated July 3 and went 0-0 with a 1.64 ERA in eight appearances with Los Angeles before being traded to Milwaukee July 31. Vargas went 1-0 with a 1.78 ERA in 28 appearances with the Brewers.
The Brewers also announced Friday signing catcher Matt Treanor to a minor-league contract with an invitation to Major League camp. He was limited to four games with Detroit last season due to a hip injury.
