Incorrect information on your credit report can cost you thousands of dollars a year. So what can you do to avoid issues of that kind?

Shane Kelbel of Credit Solution Group offers some helpful tips. Credit Solution Group specializes in removing negative and inaccurate information from consumer credit reports leveraging consumer protection laws.

For starters, Kelbel says don't close good accounts. Even if you don't have a balance on an account, closing it altogether can have a negative impact on your credit score. That's especially true if you've held the account for an extended period of time.

Kelbel also suggests actively monitoring your credit report. That means checking all three credit reporting agencys multiple times a year.

If you notice a problem, Kelbel says you should first contact the source of the problem and address the issue. Consumers should also reach out to the credit agency that listed the problem.

If you have more questions, you're urged to attend a free workshop taking place at McKinley Marine in Milwaukee at 6 p.m. on Thursday, September 16th. More information on this workshop can be found at Credit Solution Group.
