WITI-TV, MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee hosted its third job camp. The camp provides training in the new tools, that job seekers need in this economy. With the Wisconsin losing more than 100,000 jobs in the past year there was no shortage of job seekers.

The job camp isn't a hiring fair. Volunteers are trying to help job seekers learn skills they haven't used in years, if ever. The attendees included everyone from factory laborers to middle and senior managers.

Mike Aebly has been out of a job for about a half year. He says, "I'm looking for work. I was at a company that everyone's heard of, had a rearrangement back in June and I've been looking for work ever since."

Now Aebly is working to become a better job seeker. "Linkedin was new to me. I've gotten pretty good with Linkedin. At my last job we talked about the elevator speech and I was actually honing that before I needed it for real." That's the 30 second speech you would use to sell yourself if you ran into a prospective boss on an elevator.

Job Camp Organizer Todd Nilson says, "They haven't had to network. They haven't had to use any of the new job search tools like Linkedin and social media tools to connect with other people."

The job camp is staffed by volunteers, who know about job hunting first hand. "Yeah, this is a 100% volunteer run event. Of all the volunteers here I would probably put it at somewhere around 80%-90% are in transition themselves."

Job camp organizers hope to hold another training session sometime this spring.
