WITI-TV, MILWAUKEE -
A popular Milwaukee will close it's doors, but you may not have seen the last of the Eisner Museum. It's still gonna be around, but business is simply moving in a different direction.
The first thing fans of the popular Eisner Museum needs to know is the museum is not closing. Bill Eisner, son of the museum's namesake says it will simply exist in a different way. He says, "While it will no longer be an exhibition space it will be shifting more toward education and community outreach."
Fore 10 years people have enjoyed the museum that takes visitors on a walk through advertising history. In it you can see how some of the country's most popular brands got their start.
In July 2009, the Museum Board of Directors got word there would be a change with the facility where the museum is housed. Eisner says, "The building that we're in is owned by MIAD and in July they approached us and said they were building new dorms for their students and since they occupy the top three floors of the building once the building is done they'll be moving out and ownership will change and we'll be without a building."
That does not mean the exhibits will no longer exist. Many will be displayed in an online exhibition.
Since the museum will no longer exist in the traditional sense, a name change could be somewhere in the near future. According to Bill Eisner the Museums Board of Directors still plan to continue to take work it's done over the last 10 years into it's new decade.
The museum will remain open until March 31st. There will be a number of events held there after that point. There is a fundraiser for the museum happening Friday February 19, 2010.
