WITI-TV, BAY VIEW - A tragic car accident over the weekend claimed the life of an Oak Creek High School student. 17-year-old Abby Cyrs was with her boyfriend the night she died. FOX 6 Jennifer Reyes shows you what Abby's friends are doing to keep her memory alive.

Ashley Smith and Abby Cyrs had been best friends since middle school. They liked much of the same thing, like dressing up and going out to dances. She never imagined this pictures would be all she would have of left of her best friend.

Early Sunday morning Milwaukee police responded to this car accident on Superior St. Police say the driver, a 17-year-old boy, was speeding when he hit a tree. he was trapped in the car, but firefighters managed to rescue him. He suffered major injuries and was taken to the hospital.

17-year-old Abby Cyrs, wasn't wearing a seat belt. She was ejected from the car, her injuries too severe for her to survive and died at the hospital.

Ashley Smith and her friends came out to the scene of the accident Sunday night to set up a memorial. Abby's Co-worker Kimberly Schultz said, "It shows that all these people care, and didn't want to lose someone like her, no one wants to lose someone like her."

Cyrs was a senior at Oak Creek High School where it was anything, but a normal day following the news of the crash. Back at her house, Smith continues to get text messages from friends. Most still can't believe their young and caring friend is gone.

The Milwaukee Police Department is recommending that the District Attorney charge the driver with Homicide by Intoxicated Use of a Motor Vehicle.
