WITI-TV, MILWAUKEE - Some are describing the trend on Milwaukee's east side as a rash of robberies. Wednesday night police are saturating Milwaukee's east side hoping to curb criminal activity. They are pulling over cars for traffic violations and while doing so trying to find out if the driver knows something about the robberies.

Officers on alert after what some call an alarming trend on Milwaukee's east side. Over the last month UWM has marked 10 days on the calendar where at least 15 robberies have occurred. Some call it a crime spree.

Officer Chris Shlachter is doing what he can to curb the crimes. Many of the robberies described as street crimes leave victims shaken up. At least three times businesses have been hit. The owner of the Open Pantry on Oakland says he was threatened with a knife, and the store was robbed twice.

Police have made arrests and officer Shlachter says they've made some progress in solving the recent crimes. There are more criminals out there, and the hope is saturating these streets will calm fears. A more visible police presence will hopefully keep crimes of opportunity to a minimum and arrests to a maximum.
