WITI-TV, MILWAUKEE - You probably knew her best as a Milwaukee news anchor. Melodie Wilson worked in TV, for WTMJ, and later for WITI- FOX 6.

Recently Wilson lost her long battle with cancer, but her breast cancer diagnosis turned the respected TV anchor into an advocate for others battling the disease.

In April of 2009, knowing she didn't have much time left Wilson looked into the lens again to say keep on fighting. Wilson said, "I wanted to use TV one more time to help bring the story to you...Please find your own way to help fight to eliminate breast cancer."

Monday, Wilson lost her battle against cancer, but it was the way she fought since her diagnosis in 1992 that has inspired thousands of others to do the same. She dealt with breast cancer on a public stage, while anchoring the news at FOX 6.

In 1999, she decided to be an anchor for others in a different way, and founded the organization After Breast Cancer Diagnosis(ABCD). The purpose of ABCD is to give support for people battling breast cancer, survivors become mentors to those struggling through the illness.

ABCD Executive Director Ginny Finn says, "At least three thousand people have been directly touched through the matching process, and thousands more through the breast cancer and education work we do." It was a need Melodie realized after getting so many calls from viewers, during her diagnosis.

Wilson was Cancer free for many years, until 2007 when she learned it hat metastasized to her lungs and her brain.

At age 59 the cancer technically won, but Wilson has no doubt left a legacy that will encourage many others to keep on fighting until the end.
