WITI-TV, MILWAUKEE -
H1N1 flu vaccines are coming in small doses and they've arrived ahead of schedule. those on the front line of keeping the public healthy are among the first to get the vaccine.
When there's an emergency, Bell Ambulance employees are often first on the scene. It's only fitting that these first responders are also first in line to get the H1N1 vaccine. Bell Ambulance Co-Owner James Lombardo says, "We were fortunate enough to get the vaccines yesterday, and were going to be approved hopefully by the state tomorrow to give to our 200 employees."
Lombardo says vaccinations like H1N1, and traditional flu shots are a necessary tool of the trade for his workers.
Other local health care facilities began receiving small doses of the vaccine on Tuesday, including Columbia St. Mary's which now has 100 doses of the H1N1 nasal mist.
Right now health care workers and those considered high risk, are first in line to get the vaccine.
The vaccine is currently arriving in the form of a nasal mist, and well eventually be shipped in shot form as well. It is recommended that adults get one dose of the vaccine and children 10 and under get 2 doses.
