WITI-TV, WAUWATOSA -
Police in Wauwatosa are looking for two suspects who tried to steal copper wiring from a vacant home.
Rita Piper has lived in the same Wauwatosa neighborhood for about 20 years. Her house is very similar to the one next door, but there is one major difference. Piper's house is vacant, and being foreclosed on. Three other properties on her block are also sitting empty right now. Piper says," In this very small area, we have six houses that were foreclosed."
With so many vacant home someone was bound to take advantage of them, and they tried last Wednesday afternoon. Police say someone broke into one of the foreclosed homes on the 4500 block of 110th St., but it wasn't police who busted them.
When an agent came to show the house he found two vehicles parked in the driveway, the front door was unlocked. When he went inside he saw a man, and a woman walking up the stairs, and on the kitchen floor was a big pile of copper wire and tubing.
The agent showing the house realized he had just walked into a burglary in progress, but when he turned around the suspects were already gone. One of them came back to ask the agent if he was going to leave the house open, and that's when the agent called police.
