Since those donations often come through door to door solicitations from generous area residents, Pastor Lashley wants everyone to know he's legit. When his solicitors come to your door, he wants you to know they're legitimate as well. So he suggests you ask to see some proof of affiliation.

On Milwaukee's south side the Milwaukee Restoration and Victory Churches also work to help people in need also going door to door for donations. Pastor Howard Boatman ways he has had former members pose as church reps. Pastor Howard says, "Unfortunately, a lot of people left and they left with a lotta schemes and games or means of continuing to do what they wanna do using the church fliers for makin money." Howard suggests a confirmation call.

Both pastors strongly encourage homeowners to execute three checks. Check the rep's identification, check the organization's authenticity, and in deciding to donate write a check instead of giving cash.
