With thousands of students in very close quarters the spread of disease can happen quickly. That's why UW-Parkside officials say they are not taking nay chances when ti comes to the H1N1 virus.
Steve Mclaughlin from UW-Parkside says, "There is a team on campus working to develop a response plan to the situation should we have outbreak of the swine flu."
Students head back to campus on Sunday. The college age population is considered a high risk group for the virus, and that's why the University is paying close attention to it's new action plan. UW-Parkside does have extra space in residence halls where they can allow students to go in special rooms, and not be exposing other students. The University also provides for meals to be delivered to the infected students as well.
Part of the plan is to make sure students are also aware of how to protect themselves from the virus. Those messages will come through e-mail and tips o proper hygiene will also be posted in campus restrooms. UW-Parkside officials say the response plan is still in the works, but hope it is never needed.
The University hopes to offer the H1N1 vaccine in the Student Health Center when it becomes available.
