WITI-TV, MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee police swarm a stretch of Hampton Wednesday night. Their mission was to clear the neighborhood of guns and drugs. FOX 6 camera's are there when the cuffs go on.

Police used up to the minute crime data to determine where to look. Over a six hour time frame a dozen officers took to the streets targeting the way drugs and guns are transported.

Sgt. Chris Brown who supervised the effort said, " Our objective is to stop cars, target vehicles that may be moving guns drugs and promoting violence...violent crimes in the city."

Officers identify simple violations like a broken tail light, or windows that are too tinted. Most drivers leave with a warning, but on many occasions officers find one violation leads to a more serious one.

The crime dog Kanobi was used for vehicles with a suspicious smell in them. This dog is trained to retrieve drugs from even the most secret hiding places.j

This effort is part of what's called Mission Hampton, and it's funded by a grant from the State Patrol. Sgt. Brown says, "The grant money is allowing extra officers to be on the street. We put em together and focus em on one tight area."

Police made 48 traffics stops on or nearby about a 15 block stretch of Hampton. In one case discovering a gun after searching a car. The fire arm is properly stored, and officers later determine the owner is legally able to possess it.

Police tactics eventually produces a package of powder. Police suspect its cocaine, and spot baking soda that can be used in the manufacturing of crack.
