WITI-TV, MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee County Supervisors debated a proposal Thursday to explore a new management structure.

Board Chairman Lee Holloway's proposal would allow the County to decide whether it needs an elected executive. "The question is - if you had a billion dollar business, would you want a politician to run it - or would you want a manager with degrees and experience to run it?"

County Executive Scott Walker actually supports the cutting of his job. He also supports cutting all of county government.

"There'd be no county board, no administrator, basically what you do is take everything the county does right now and plug it into another form of government," said Walker.

Walker says things like the Milwaukee County Zoo and County Parks system could be run by independent districts with elected officials.

For now, all the ideas being tossed onto the table are just that, ideas. The soonest both of these proposals will come up for debate again is September.

No matter what decision is made, it would have to be approved by the Wisconsin Legislature and Milwaukee County voters. The earliest any change like that could take effect is 2012.
