WITI-TV, WAUWATOSA - Elm Grove police officer John Krahn and Scott Partenfelder speak for the first time since they were injured while trying to rescue a baby boy from a van that got struck by a train on Memorial Day. Their words were filled with emotion and thanks for everyone who has shown them support in the last few weeks.

Officer Krahn spoke at length about recovering from his injuries. He indicated that Partenfelder and his wife, Monica have been instrumental in his recovery. Krahn says he's been able to spend time with the couple and that their shared experience has helped him get through the recovery. Krahn also expressed his thanks for the unbelieveable support from everyone in the process.

Monica Partenfelder shared some emotional thoughts about the day the train struck her van with her child inside. She thanked Officer Krahn for his courageous actions. And the one message she wanted to make sure everyone took home with them was that her son is alive in large part because he was strapped in a car seat.

Dr. Travis Webb spoke at the beginning of the news conference about the injuries Krahn and Partenfelder suffered. Partenfelder suffered the more severe injuries as a result of being struck by the train. The injuries include a ruptured spleen, a transected pancreas, multiple rib fracture and a ruptured aorta. Partenfelder was just released from Froedtert Hospital Tuesday.

Dr. Webb talked about the injuries of Officer Krahn as well. He indicated Krahn came in with multiple rib fractures, bruising of the lungs and multiple lower leg fractures.
