A construction company doing some water line work near 76th and Becher in West Allis struck a small gas main. A We Energies spokesman says the main feeds only one customer and crews are now digging a hole farther up the street to isolate the leak and stop the flow of gas.
West Allis police and fire are on the scene monitoring the situation. They have a two-block area near the leak blocked off.
Jefferson Elementary School at 72nd and Becher is not being affected by the leak and has not been evacuated.
